Worms 4: Mayhem is the latest in the much loved Worms franchise and brings back the much loved formula of warring worms in a cartoon world.

Much like it's predecessor Worms 3D, Worms 4: Mayhem puts the eponymous worms in lush, cartoonish 3D environments and has them battle it out with a selection of weapons ranging from the typical shotguns and bazookas to comically outrageous series favourites such as the devastating and absurd 'Super Sheep'. You'll have to put all of these weapons to good use if you want to best your enemies and as with the previous 3D outting it's not just about great aim but clever positioning also.

The game features a lengthy single player campaign and unlike previous titles in the series, it's not just about wiping out your enemy team. The missions take place over five different themed areas, Jurassic, Camelot, Arabian, Construction and Wild West. The twenty five missions will have you completing objectives now as well as taking out those pesky enemy worms. Objectives include such irreverent fun as destroying scenery and collecting various items from around the map.

The 25 single player maps are all available in multiplayer along with another 20 unique maps just for the multiplayer. Whilst the console version of Worms 4: Mayhem is restricted to local players only, the PC version boasts online matchmaking and impressive suite of options for hosting and joining games. The multiplayer does lack some of the creativity that's been put into the single player missions but they're still a lot of fun. After all, who can't be happy when they're beating up their friends or complete strangers through the medium of worm based warfare.

There's a lot to love here for veterans of the series and if you're a newcomer it's easy to get into the bombastic, over the top action. It's not an overly deep game but then what did you expect from militarised earth worms?
